I observed at J's Pre-K this past Friday. She has come a long way in just a few months. She has always had a sensitivity to loud noises. If another child cried, she cried. If someone sneezed or coughed loudly, it would upset her. So school has been so good for her in this area. I remember WAY back when she was teeny tiny, the sound of the toilet flushing would send her into a panic. Not that it was very loud, but just that it was a noise. I am very proud to say that observing last Friday showed me just how far J has come. A new little fellow in her class is having a hard time adjusting. He was screaming, would not stay in his chair, throwing himself in the floor, etc. J was at the opposite end of the semi-circle from this young boy, thankfully. She would occasionally bend at the waist and look down at him but she never got upset - she didn't fall apart! I was astonished. She has adjusted so well to loud noises, and behavior
. Hopefully soon this new boy will adjust and learn how to stay in his seat. I never thought that J would stay in a chair for more than 5 seconds. But during week 2 of school, she had it down pat. She has some wonderful teachers!
I made it to May 20th without taking Benadryl! It was tough, but I survived. Yesterday I received my first allergy shots and also got 91 pricks in the back, again
. They found that I am allergic to Cantalope, Corn, Tomatoes, Celery, Coconut, Almonds, Peanuts, Soybean Grain, Oat Grain, some beans, Hazel Nuts, to name a few of the stronger ones. So, now they add more injections to the regimen. I started with 4 shots yesterday which will be given twice a week, so now it will be at least 5, twice a week, for the first 3 months. Then in time there will be more space in between injections. I am thankful for the opportunity to give this a try and also for good medical insurance! We are so blessed!
Tomorrow night we will be attending a Spring Fling at J's school. Joe is NOT looking forward to this - he's a homebody! I think it will be good to be around the other kids and get to meet some parents and have time to talk more with J's teachers. There will be face painting and horse-back riding, which J absolutely LOVES! She gets to ride once a month at school on Wednesdays. A therapeudic riding organization brings ponies and horses out for the kids to ride. She so enjoys it. We attended Relay For Life this past Friday evening in support of Super Cooper, the 5 year old nephew of one of my long time schoolmates, who was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor last Fall. Cooper is a real trooper. He has received 19 chemotherapy treatments at Duke since last September. God is really blessing him and his family. He is doing great and the inoperable tumor is melting - Praise the Lord! Last I heard there wear earnings at over $650,000.00 for Relay for Life in our county. In recent years past we have led in funds for county size in the nation. It will be interesting to know the totals for 2008. Cooper was the kids co-chair this year and had over 200 luminaries there (in the shape of a heart). We are proud of Cooper (and his family) in his fight and strength and thank God for his life.
Until next time, be God's, aj

Getting started with the blog thing to keep a journal of the journey of our lives together. I am a wife, mother, full-time developmental research (I'm suppose to insert 'scientist' here but I have a hard time calling myself a 'scientist') person. I live with the two most sweetest people in the world. Seriously, they are sweethearts! Joe is my best friend and baby J (our 3 year old daughter) is our measuring stick. She keeps us in check. We each love the Lord and strive to let Him lead every step, every day. He has blessed us well beyond measure, time and time again. Over the last six years we have faced some type of heart surgery each year, except for 2007! When I say 'we', I am referring to my sweethearts. Both were born with heart defects and both are thriving greatly, thanks be to God!
For those unaware, we live in the sticks and absolutely love it! Although I'd fair better, allergy-wise, in a city full of asphalt, I wouldn't take a thing for living in the country. After many years of 'dealing' and swallowing antihistimines, I finally said 'enough is enough' this week. I am tired of being tired and dry all the time and sniffling and sneezing when I leave Zyrtec out of my diet. I visited an Allergist. I am allergic to everything under the sun, except dogs
. He said I should have been in 20 years ago, but you know how hard-headed some people can be. I start shots next week as well as have some more testing done for food allergies, since some fruits and nuts do make my mouth/throat/chin itch. I had never put it together - I'm highly allergic to all trees, weeds, grasses, POLLENS (which I figured) but those pollens are also in raw apples, pears, nuts, etc. So that's why I itch when I eat a pear - I love pears as good as J does. I also have a sinus infection, hummm - I just finished a Z-pack less than two weeks ago for bronchitis. But the x-ray tells the story and my left sinus cavity is half filled with infection. As I reflect back on the years I have determined that, since no one has ever x-rayed my sinuses, I have probably kept some infection in my sinus cavities off and on for many years. You'd think the pressure in my head and behind my eyes would have made me more persistant. Oh well, I'm looking forward to the shots. I do pray they help. As I described the 98 pricks in my back and 19 injections in my right arm, Joe got very uneasy
. This guy can do open-heart surgery somewhat at ease but he hates a needle! My back is still itching as I can't take any antihistimines by mouth until my visit next Tuesday. Do you know how hard it is to put Hydrocortisone Cream on your own back?! Especially when you're out of shape, getting old, and not so limber any more
. Now don't think that Joe hasn't helped me put the cream on, it's just that he can't come to work with me or get up with the chickens like I do. I'm counting down the days until May 20th! Well, I think I'm gonna love this blog thing. It will be very neat to look back in time and have a record of all the happenings in our lives.
Be God's, aj
